Natural Family Planning (NFP), also referred to as Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM), involves tracking ovulation to determine when a woman is fertile — by observing biologic markers like cervical mucus, basal body temperature, and hormone levels. It is safe, effective, and can be used to either avoid or achieve pregnancy, in a way that is consistent with your values and beliefs.

About Me
My name is Dr. Rachel Regan. I am a board-certified family medicine physician with training in full spectrum family medicine. This means that I have experience in treating all ages (newborns to geriatrics) as well as obstetrics and gynecology. However, as a Catholic physician, I have a special interest in NFP (Natural Family Planning) and using it to help diagnose and treat different women’s health issues such as irregular cycles, PMS, and infertility.
My mission is to educate and empower couples to make informed decisions about their reproductive health using methods that are both natural and consistent with their moral values.
NFP Methods
Explore each approach and find the method that fits your goals and lifestyle.
A woman makes observations of cervical mucus seen on toilet paper. She is most fertile when cervical mucus is clear, stretchy, and lubricative in sensation (like raw egg whites).
Types: Creighton, Billings, Two Day Method
A woman tracks her basal body temperature every morning (or uses a device to track average temperature while sleeping). Ovulation is indicated when basal body temperature spikes by 0.5–1.0°F and remains elevated through the luteal phase.
Types: Natural Cycles, Tempdrop
Much like an at-home urine pregnancy test, this method uses urine ovulation tests to track hormones through the cycle. A surge in LH (luteinizing hormone) indicates ovulation has occurred.
Types: Marquette Method (Clearblue Monitor), Mira Fertility, Inito Fertility
